Used different printed scrapbook papers for the background and added details using pens and gelly pens, used a vintage image on each ATC from Lisa's Altered art collage sheet, printed out a word for each image, lastly I used Neo Color II watersoluable crayons to the edges of each card to give it an aged look.

Yes, I have made another Funky-n-Spunky, but this one I call Funky-n-Spunky Returns :), they are the oldies but goodies! I have also made a new character(s) Pip-n-Zip. Pip is a little dog, Zip is a little cat, yeah looks like a mouse...anywho. Funky is a Cat just so you know, and Spunky is a mouse. These were made for kattera22 on flickr.

Altered PostCard

This is an altered postcard I made for a swap I am in on Flickr. I used a vintage postcard that has actual writing on the back from 1909 I believe. The center image is original to the card, I added the rest. I used a decorative paper napkin with roses on it to cover the white background of the card, then I added the images of the two other female images on opposite corners. I also added the brighter yellow roses, and the shoe on the upper right corner. Then I outlined the edges of the roses on the decorative paper napking with glitter glue. Lastly I put the green little gems on the vintage image in the center.

This is BB. I did this drawing differently from my usual work...I opted to leave out the pen drawing I normally do before I color it in. I just used watercolor to start my illustration, then colored it in with color pencils. I really like how it turned out...it has a softer look to it rather than a hard outlined look like my other work. I also like that it has more of a painted feel to it.
It was a bit more difficult to start out with just the watercolor, but I think it will get easier and more defined as I continue to do more of them. Please feel free to leave comments with critiques or suggestions :) Thanks!

I really had fun making Piano School (The name of the school says it all) used ad from an 1800's magazine, and image from a vintage childrens magazine; Taking in the Sites cracks me up because not only is the lumber jack and pumpkin (yeah a pumpkin :) taking in the city sites, but so is the mouse as he see's the odd couple in the window! City Walk, hey a bunny can take a walk in the city! Anyway, I like how Taking in the Sites and City Walk have a 3-d look to them.

To Sell or Not to Sell

I have been thinking about opening an Etsy shop. I have been told by many fellow artists that I should be selling my art work or illustrate a book. I have so many ideas for art work and illustrations I would like to put out there and try to sell but I am also concerned about making sure I keep tabs on the taxes and business part of it. Then again I may not make enough $$ to worry about it. What to do, what to do!

Artist trading cards have always afforded me the outlet to keep making art. This is why it has been enjoyable for me to make these for the last 6 years. There is no real stress to making and trading the cards...so this is my reason for having done them so long. I have also stuck to the rules of never selling artist trading cards, except for two that I sold on Ebay. When I first started trading artist trading cards I didn't realize where the idea had come from, then I researched it and found out the history behind artist trading cards. I never sold any ATCs again feeling that it was taking away from the unique concept of the artist(s) who thought up this generous and fun way of giving art by trading never selling artist trading cards. There has always been the debate about ACEO's...as long as you call them ACEO's it is okay to sell them. I won't sell art in this format, but others think differently which is okay...that's their prerogative.

To sell or not to sell...that is the question! :)
(I don't mean sell artist trading cards, just my art work in general)

I call this Funky Mona. Monthly Themed ATC flickr group has a theme for each month, and Novembers theme was Mona Lisa. Their was a twist to the theme, we had to alter or make Mona Lisa different in some way so I chose to make her funky along with her pet cat spunky :) I just used an image of her face and drew her body, hair, etc.

Altered Note Card box

An altered box. This box once held note cards then I altered it with a vintage eclectic theme.
The letters at the bottom were wooden beads with letters on them, they spell out "play time", I distressed them and added wires to them with small paper hearts...can't see them very well in the photo. Too many other details to speak of, but I sure did enjoy making it.

I didn't even had an idea of how Lady Tree was going to turn out. I started with a face and it went from there...as I kept adding doodles I could see that I wanted it to be tree like...so Lady Tree was born. I think I am going to make more of these in different colors and doodles.

It is so smooth to work on. I really enjoyed doodling on it. I used micron .01 point pens, a gelly roll pen I have, and some watercolor on it. The blotting paper worked out wonderfully with all three. Going to try some other pens I have too.

These are for the "If I Had a Sharpie III" Swap on ATCSForAll. We had to use only Sharpie pens/markers on the atcs. This is the first time I have done this using only Sharpie. I don't normally use Sharpie in my work. I have to say it made me go outside the box for me, and I had a lot of fun doing it. I didn't think Sharpie markers were as easy to work with, but they blend beautifully.
The swap called for 3 atcs, but I always make an extra for the host.

I am in a sketch book swap in the Monday ArtDay ATC Ning Group. There are thirteen players and we can do what we like in each of the sketch books. I received my first sketch book of the group and did a color pencil and ink drawing for Genxster. She likes B & W movie stars and film noir so I tried to do something she may like. This is my first humble attempt at drawing and a B&W movie star (Marlene Dietrich) hope I did it justice :) By the way, Genxster does such an AMAZING job with the movie stars she draws! Waiting for my next sketch book!!!!! :)

Yes, I have made another two paper dolls :) These were made for a private ATC swap. I trade with this particular person frequent. She does some wonderful origami ATCs! The names of these paper dolls are Vintage Star and Lil' Babushka. Lil' Babushka is a collage doll that I make on an artist trading card by cutting out a dress shape, a head wrap and then drawing in the legs, arms and face, but here I actually made her into an ATC size paper doll. Both paper dolls have moveable arms, legs, and heads.

These are some of my latest works. I enjoy working in this 4"x6" size. I made these for a ATP yahoo group I am in.
They are titled, starting from bottom to top, Volcano Mama; Pondering Patty; Thoughtful Tess; and Star Dust.
I used decorative paper napkins, acrylics, ink and watercolors to do the first three. The last two I used watercolor, ink, acrylic, vintage images, and magazine bits and pieces.

These are some artist trading cards for a private trade. I did a quick bird drawing and colored in with watercolors called Raven. I may add a bit of black to the birds eyes because there seems to be too much blue going on.
The Dolly and her birdie is done in color pencils. I really like how the color in her face turned out. It makes her look primitive, rustic like :)

More artist trading cards-Queen Swap

These are some of my latest artist trading cards for a Queen Swap. I am hosting a Queen themed swap on Monday Artday ATC a Ning group.
Monday ArtDay ATC is really a great site. Most are illustrators. All the members are very artistic.
These are the three Queen ATCs I have made for the swap. These are done in acrylics.

Flower Paper Book

These are the first five pages of the Flower Paper Book I made for a swap. Each page is 4"x6", both sides had to be arted up in some way. We are to make a book using at least one flower on each page, anything else we put on the page is up to us. We are assigned a partner to send it to. My partner is from South Africa. I hope she likes it.

First I stamped each page with a foam stamp using gesso, it acts as a resist. Then I painted over it with a wash of acrylic paints and wiped some off with a paper towel. I got this technique from Street Team. Great site by the way.

Then I used handwriting rubber stamps with black ink and randomly stamped the images on each page. I made transparencies out of copies of photos for each page, and added a flower. Going with the flower theme, I also put a quote about flowers on each page.

Lastly, I added white details using a white sharpie marker. It had to be binded in some way, I used my coil binder.

The quotes are:

1st page: Flowers open the door to all of Earth's beauty.

2nd page: Flowers have some of their fragrance in the hand that bestows them.-Chinese Proverb

3rd page: If dandelions were hard to grow, they would be most welcome on any lawn.-Andrew Mason

4th page: Perfumes are the feelings of flowers-Heinrich Heine

5h page: Flowers are love's truest language-Park Benjamin

It's So Pink! Swap

These are for a swap on the artisttradingcards yahoo group. The theme is pink. I used 4 different shades of pink in the background, border, flower, and fiber. I hope they work out for the swap :)
I do enjoy the color pink. I have to say I have always had a harder time incorporating images, paper and other embellishments to make ATCs. I just need to keep at it :)

Tea Time ATC

This ATC I made using rubber stamp images that I created. A good friend of mine was kind and giving enough to offer to make some stamps with images I drew. She is so sweet! I am so appreciative of her kindness!! :)
I drew the tea bag and coffee cup, and this is the first time I used them on an ATC. I did add color to the images using color pencils.

This ATC I made for a trade with a friend that likes mermaids. This is Lil' Mermaid, I made her out of paper and drew in the face, and added some bling :)
I have also realized I went over the 30 Days Challenge, and have added two more pieces to the challenge :) Until next time...Have a Wonderful Day!
